No More Rats??

These are some images spotted over at Daily Serving of Dalek's newest show, Broken, Beaten and Buried at Charleston, South Carolina's Redux Contemporary Art Center. It's interesting and cool to see Dalek's transition from his signature crazy rats inside psychedelic spaces to a more abstract, flat plain. If you're in South Carolina, this would be a great opportunity to see one of Dalek's most ambitious shows yet. Broken, Beaten and Buried ends March 7th.

Graham Ohmer

Graham's a super cool guy from my high school who's applying to VCU's Art Foundations program. But from the looks of his Flickr set, they should just let him walk right in. Keep up the good work dude! (Good to see Austin's still shredding the gnar too!)

Santiago Mostyn: All Most Heaven

"The book came out of a need to resolve disparate strains of creative output into a form that, by the process of its creation, would give me a sense of resolution about what I'd been through over two summers of building rafts and taking a vaudevillian variety show down the Mississippi River with a band of fellow performers. And, of course, that would show these experiences in a way that was as open to anyone's personal logic as it could be true to my own."

Also, tonight, January 17th, Santiago will debut a collaborative installation with Bill Daniel at Needles and Pens Gallery in San Francisco.

Barry McGee at Ratio 3

I know it's old (actually, it's from September), but Barry McGee is one of my favorite artists and I've been meaning to put this up for a while now. He was at Ratio 3 in September and October to display his show "Lydia Fong: A Moment of Reflection" and I would've given my left nut to go. These pictures that Fecal Face put up make it look absolutely amazing.

Nothin' but Sludge

Today is the last day of my vacation in Leesburg (and what a day it is!). So, as I always do when this type of weather gently taps on my bedroom window with an ever so subtle "Fuck You!", I immediately got into a music-downloading frenzy. And in accordance with the weather, I figured the best genre to focus my unwavering attention on would be none other than the sludge genre (of which I'm sure all my ska friends are tired of hearing me talk about by now). Some of the artists I'm sharing I found today where as some I've been a fan of for a while. I didn't puy up too many in this post because it seems like a strong majority of the bands I praise on this blog are of the sludge/drone/down-tempo variety. But anyway, stop listening to me talk and start drowning in sludge!

Shivalry Ain't Dead Yet

I stumbled upon this tonight and thought it was pretty cool. A guy in Toronto built his girlfriend a bike completely from scratch for her birthday; but that's not the best part: he had it custom painted to incorporate major details and significant events in her life to make it completely her own. Even better that it's a single speed!
